So we meet Eric, whose powers include the manipulation of sound

Franklin nodded his head, sharing her thoughts. Then after a moment, he spoke, his voice breaking in to the silence of the cave like a sonic boom. "Hello, are you here? We would really like to talk to you…" Then he was just moving his lips, no sound was coming from them at all. Shrugging his shoulders and looking helplessly at his companions, Franklin stopped the useless gesture of talking. Alice then tried to speak, and she couldn't utter a word either. Frustrated, she turned to Finola, who took her turn. To her amazement, she was able to speak with no difficulty at all, her voice sounding loud and clear as it echoed off the walls.

"Look, we just want to talk to you. I don't know why you're doing all this when we are just here to help. Iam sent us to find you. Do you know who Iam is?"

"I know Iam very well. In fact, he is the reason I am still alive," A voice that sounded sort of like a male radio announcer, pleasant, well modulated and very clear. She was waiting to hear him announce a song or something after this commercial message. Her thoughts were rewarded with pleasant laughter. He spoke again addressing her directly. "Finola, if you walk over to you right, there is a small opening, just large enough for you to walk through. I would like it very much if you would come in and talk to me for a moment."

Alice and Franklin gestured frantically for her to stay with them, arms waving as they tried to emphasize their point. Mouths still moving but emitting no sound, they pulled her back and switched to mental communication.

There is no way that you are going to go in there by yourself! What are you thinking! We don't know who this guy is. Franklin's worried voice whispered in her head.

Don't even think about it! Alice added as the younger girl tried to move to the small doorway, now visible in the corner of her eye.

If I had wanted to do something really bad to you, don't you think I would have done it by now. You are after all, in my territory. The boy's thoughts entered their internal conversation.

"He's right you know," Finola said aloud."But I would appreciate it if you would not jump into our heads. And by the way, stop blocking my friend's voices."

"I am sorry," The D.J. voice answered.

"Thanks," Franklin said sarcastically, jumping as his voice filled the cavern once again.

"You're welcome. By the way, my name is Eric."

"Well Eric, you are going to have to see all of us at once because there is no way that we are going to let Finola walk in there alone," Franklin said firmly.

"I could turn up the volume in here a whole lot," Eric's voice became petulant and childlike for just a moment. "Maybe then you would agree with me."

"How about not," Franklin said forming a third fireball and directing it in a stream toward the small opening in the cave wall. The flames spread quickly along the surface of the rock and filled the doorway completely, effectively closing the small room off from the large cavern. There was no way he was going to let this guy bully them into doing what he wanted; best to start this relationship out with the understanding that they were equals.

Alice, expecting some kind of retaliation, pulled her friends close to her and erected an invisible bubble around them. Then picturing the little room in her head, she was able to transport them to Eric's lair. They rematerialized behind a lanky young man with hair so blonde it was almost white. He was staring anxiously at the flames that closed off his only exit, his strange golden eyes darting around the room as panic set in. Breathing shallowly, he backed away from the door, whirling around at the sudden sound of several feet hitting the rocky surface of his refuge. He was seeking a way out; it had not occurred to him that they would be seeking a way in.

There was too much light in here, it hurt his eyes, he had to get the fire out somehow. When he was done with that, he would have to get these intruders out of his cave, Iam had said that he would get out of here soon, it had been his wish for so long. Now that it was happening however, he was not so sure that he wanted to go with these people, well maybe with Finola, if he could just get rid of the other two then maybe she would stay with him for awhile.
