on this date in 1933

On this date in 1933, the first drive in picture opened. I was a kid when they started to loose their popularity, but I vividly remeber piling into the car with the family to go see a double feature and getting their early enough to get a good spot where you could both see the film and get a speaker that worked (people would sometimes forget to detach the detachable speaker and try to drive off, ripping the speaker cord) When it was really hot, we would pull out our lawn chairs and sit in front of the car, making conversation with the people parked next to us, who were doing the same. It was great to watch a movie under the stars, sometimes the movie was good and sometimes it wasn't, but must people went anyway, the atmosphere was much more interactive than the inside theaters because their was so much more to do and see. Good times, good memories.
