Early this morning
Early this morning, the emergency event alarm went off, we were instructed to go to the nearest exit and leave the building. I swear to you, if this had been an actual emergency, half the residents of the hotel would now be dead. People were taking the elevators despite being told not to do so, when we walked down the stairs to the lobby, teenagers were sitting by themselves on the floor with laptops blocking the exit to the stairwell. When you exited the stairwell, they were all sitting in the way, totally oblivious to the fact that people were falling over them. We walked out to the parking lot, only one or two people went with us. firemen were entering the building and the valets were still parking cars and ushering people toward the check in desk. It was bizarre. Of course, it was all due to a teenager activating the fire alarm and we had to hunt down a hotel employee to find out that it was all clear, but we passed fireman going down the stairs while we were walking back up as well as a few very sleepy looking hotel residents on their way down a full 45 min after the alarm had been sounded, just exiting the building from the alarm. Crazy!!!!! I was concerned with getting my daughter awake, sticking together with my husband and getting out of the building, he took his wallet, I left my laptop and everything, doesn't mean a thing when your dead. People were rescuing their laptops! Got me to thinking about both the complacency of people and their ideas of what is important, disturbing.
